Curtain Cleaning

Frequently Asked Questions

Cleaning Process & Shrinkage

After you drop off your curtains or blinds, we'll assess and measure them, then send you a written estimate within 5 working days. The job won't begin until you confirm in writing that we should proceed.

Once confirmed, we disassemble, hand-wash (for gentle treatment), dry, remeasure, carry out any minor repairs, and repackage them for return.

Will my curtains shrink?

Yes, many fabrics can shrink. We measure the length during initial assessment and remeasure after cleaning. If there is enough hem allowance, and the fabric is clean and undamaged, we re-hem them to the original length.

If the lining is longer than the curtain, we'll adjust it accordingly.

Stain Removal

Can you remove mould stains?

In many cases, yes, but results depend on the fabric and colourfastness. Some materials (e.g. thermal-backed curtains, polyester silks, natural fibres, Roman blinds) may only allow fading rather than full removal. We sanitise all items regardless of stain outcome.

Please tell us what caused the stain (if known). We can also treat:

  • grease
  • pet urine and spray
  • road film
  • smoke
  • wine

Additionally, we can deoderise curtains affected by odours.

Mould

What causes curtains to go mouldy?

Sunlight warms the fabric, creating a "greenhouse effect" that encourages bacteria growth. Window moisture adds humidity but isn't the main cause.

Can we put something on the curtain to prevent mould in the future?

We don't offer preventative coatings. To help minimize mould, keep windows and frames clean, and allow airflow behind curtains (especially blackout linings) by spacing them away from walls.

Colour Fastness

Does cleaning affect the colours?

Usually we see brightening, whites whiter, colours more vivid. But if colours have faded from sun exposure or dyes have degraded, they can run or bleed. We cannot restore colour that's already been lost. We do not offer dyeing services.

Blockout and Thermal Linings

These linings can suffer from sun damage, aging, and poor manufacturing quality.

Once washed, coatings may deteriorate further. If we detect potential issues before cleaning, we'll advise you and may offer relining (for an additional cost). Sometimes damage only becomes apparent during cleaning, so we'll inform you then and discuss options.

Please note that we are not liable for damage due to sun exposure, aging, or manufacturing flaws. If you choose to stop the cleaning during processing, charges incurred up to that point remain payable.

Venetian Blinds

Coatings can degrade over time due to sun exposure, cooking oils and fumes, and/or coffee machine vapors. Damage may only become apparent once wet. We'll advise you if risk is high, but we can't guarantee outcomes.
